The Alola Region
Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon take place in the Alola region, which centres around four tropical islands and one artificial island. Many Pokémon that have never been seen before inhabit the lush islands of the Alola region.
Alola is surrounded by the sea. It has a diverse ecology made up of Pokémon that have lived as natives of the Alola region for generations, along with Pokémon that have more recently arrived in Alola from other regions.
In Alola, humans and Pokémon coexist in a very close relationship, and a culture has developed that is different from other regions.
Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon changes
Ominous dark clouds are spreading in the sky above the Alola region, the setting of Pokémon Ultra Sun and Pokémon Ultra Moon. New buildings and landscapes appear that were not previously seen in Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon.
A story unfolds on a grand scale, with the Legendary Pokémon Solgaleo, Lunala, and Necrozma at its center. Secrets about Necrozma and the Alola region—undisclosed in the previous games—will come to light.
The Alola region is made up of four tropical islands, and one artificial island. Microclimates have resulted in many Kanto native Pokémon to not just change appearance, but has also changed their typings.
The Alolan forms are a result of this, with many examples of physical changes, most drastically Alolan Exeggutor, which extends the length of its neck, as well as switching a Psychic typing to Dragon to coincide with its natural Grass typing.
